Do You See What I See?

Often times when it comes to these extremely dated, heavily varnished pieces, it’s hard to imagine another life for them. But if you take a step back and look closely, this piece provides two drawers, a storage cabinet, and bi-level flat surfaces. What could that mean to you? It means this piece could become a fabulous coffee or wine bar. Drawers can hold spoons and filters, a coffee pot sits on top with an assortment of cups, and there’s plenty of storage for coffee and accessories. Conversely, the top can hold an ice bucket, wine bottles, and a few pretty glasses. There is plenty of drawer space for bottle openers, bottle stoppers, and small accessories, with extra storage for wine or your favorite beverages underneath.

The stained wood areas took a lot of sanding to remove all that varnish and the painted sections required a decent amount of repair. (Does anyone else hate those awful wood buttons? By removing them and filling the holes with wood filler, the surface becomes much more useful.) I replace with hardware with pieces I had in my stash—saving the originals for use on another piece. Trust me, with a little TLC, they will look amazing)

The finished piece offers a retro feel with updated finishes —including rustic distressing. I chose neutral colors to blend with any decor. I’m delighted with the outcome. So now… do you see what I see?

Hold my wine, I’ve got this…
