Just “Puttering” Around

I found these little numbers years ago at a thrift store. Golf theme is not really my speed, but I liked the elongated frames and detail, so I snatched them up. They have been in my stash ever since. Recently I was inspired by a mirrored tray that I saw and knew what these little golf prints were destined to be.

I deconstructed the frames and recycled the prints (sorry golf lovers). Next, I used Krylon Looking Glass spray to convert the glass into a mirror. That somewhat cloudy, antiqued finish is exactly what I was after. (There are techniques you can use with spraying alcohol onto the wet paint to create a mercury glass appearance, but more on that in another post). I cut a base out of chipboard so that it fit perfectly under the frame and then painted the entire frame and base with charcoal gray paint. A dry- brush technique with light gray and khaki over top to created an almost zinc-like finish. I attached the drawer pulls to the frame and counter sunk the holes so that the frame would fit flush against the base. I secured the glass with a scrap piece of 1/4 in plywood to create a tight fit, and screwed the base in from the bottom to finish it off.

I loved the result so much that I kept one for my dining table. The “antique mirror” is stunning with candlelight. What do you think?

Hold my wine, I’ve got this…
