Makeovers

The (literally) Wrapped Surprise

I was recently contacted by a client with a request to save her old coffee table.  She sent a picture and it was a large, square table with upholstered edges and a solid middle.  The fabric was worn, but she loved the size and shape of the table, as well as the fact that it was on wheels.  She gave me free reign to do what I could to save it.

I picked up the table and brought it to the shop–not having any idea what I was in for since all the information I needed to make a plan was covered in fabric.  It turned out it was VERY SECURELY covered–the fabric was held in place by about 40000 staples!!

I finally got the fabric and foam removed (and the majority of the staples) and could now see what I was working with.  To my relief, the solution was going to be fairly straightforward.  The client has a number of farmhouse-style pieces of furniture already, so I decided to follow that theme and her existing color scheme.  I painted the entire base black and gave it a light distress on the edges.  Then I built a farm style top to the table and finished it off with a beadboard “skirt”.

Having free reign on a project is super exciting and fun…until the day you deliver the piece and run through every decision you made in your mind in hopes that the client loves it!  To my relief and excitement, the client loved it.  (Although her sweet dog Cassie seemed relatively indifferent!!).  I was able to help her make an economical choice in saving a piece of furniture that worked so well for her family but had just seen better days.

Do you have any beloved pieces of furniture that just need a facelift?

Hold my wine, I’ve got this…
