Makeovers

From the Moment I Saw It…

This cabinet came from the basement of a friend’s house and was donated to me to see if I could do something with it.

From the moment I laid eyes on it, I knew what it wanted to become.  It was destined to be a beautiful coffee bar, with an open space for a coffee maker, plenty of storage below, a shelf up top for mugs and drawers for utensils.  I literally COULD NOT WAIT to get started.

Obviously, the top was damaged beyond repair.  The interior storage area was covered in wallpaper and the colors were in sharp contrast to one another, making the finish look severe.   The piece itself, however, was solid and in pretty good shape. I started by removing the wallpaper and the top.  Already my vision was coming together.

Filling in some scratches and damage was really the extent of additional repair work that was required.  I chose a collection of neutral tones to give the piece depth and interest and to accent the weathered gray stain I chose for the new top.  I love the beadboard backing, as I think it brings a lot of charm and character to the piece.  The finishing touch was new hardware in an oil rubbed bronze finish.

This little beauty is now warm and inviting.  Could you find a space for it in your home?

Hold my wine, I’ve got this…
