Mundane to Refined

This desk was donated to me and although it was in good condition, it was plain and dated.  For some reason, the vision that popped into my head was a desk that would work in a home’s “hub”.  I wanted it to fit in with countertops and cabinets or family room furnishings.  The finished piece should be not too masculine and not too feminine.

The hardware was the first strike against this desk–and an easy fix.  Once I removed it, the desk immediately looked better!  Next I removed the top.  Even better!  I replaced it with a farmhouse style top that added plenty of character.  To keep the focus on the beautiful wood, I painted the rest of the desk a matte black and lightly distressed the edges to give it additional interest.  Cup style drawer pulls with a hint of copper on the edge finished off the refined look.

Now it’s ready and waiting to hold all of those otherwise “homeless” items in that high traffic area of the house (think stamps, envelopes, phone chargers, scissors, flashlights…the list goes on and on).  Could you find a place for this desk in your home?

Hold my wine, I’ve got this…
