At first glance, this piece was in pretty rough shape. Ok, at second, third and fourth glance, it was a mess! But its original beauty was peaking through and I knew it could be beautiful again. Besides, they just don’t make pieces like this anymore!
The biggest obstacle was those legs. Two of them were broken off, and of the four total, two had broken detailing. I got to work cutting down and reshaping the legs. Once I had them all cut to match, I worked on reattaching the two that were broken off. Now I could start on the cosmetics.
I sanded down the top, drawer faces, and the pull-out writing desk and stained them a deep brown. The body of the piece got a deep navy blue. The original hardware was actually quite beautiful and detailed, so a coat of oil rubbed bronze paint had them looking good as new.
In the end, this gorgeous little piece got to begin a new life. Do you have any old beauties in a garage or basement that could be brought back to beautiful?
Hold my wine, I’ve got this…
