I realize that the vast majority of my posts involve taking beat-up pieces of furniture and cleaning them up. Sometimes, though, you have a piece of furniture in perfectly good condition. It’s just BORING. Nothing wrong with taking the opportunity to fancy it up!!
I received this bookcase as a donation. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. It is a sturdy, well-put-together bookcase. But it’s plain. Although there is nothing I love better than converting something ugly into something beautiful, this piece was a welcome break from having to do major renovations.
I gave the bookcase a rough sand to aid in the paint adhesion. I painted the exterior and shelves a flat black, and the interior a light neutral beige. Then came the fun part. I stenciled classic authors’ names on the back and shelves of the interior in various fonts to add interest, and arranged the names so that they could be visible once books and accessories were added to the shelves.
This one of a kind bookcase is the perfect addition to any home and is sure to be a conversation starter. Take a look around your home. Do you have any quality but boring pieces you would consider giving a makeover?
Hold my wine, I’ve got this…
