Makeovers

Well Read

I came across this skeleton of a bookcase.  It had no back and no shelves, but it was a great size and was well built.  I added it to my “stash ” of pieces that I would get to someday.  Well, someday came and I decided to tackle the bookcase.

I started by filling in all of the screw holes, scuffs and damage with wood filler.  Being the good upcycler (some may say hoarder) that I am, I looked through my stash of lumber and “pieces parts” to see what I could use for shelves.  I came across some old cabinet doors that would do the trick.  I cut them to size and used some 1/4″ plywood –also in my stash –(are you seeing the benefits yet??) to create a new back for the bookcase.  I screwed the shelves in place and attached the back.

Now came the fun part.  I painted the entire piece black and stenciled the names of classic authors randomly on the shelves, top and back of the bookcase.   The spacing of the names gives plenty of room for books, trinkets, and accessories while adding unique style and whimsy to a traditional bookcase.

I think this is a bookcase that any avid ready would appreciate.

Hold my wine, I’ve got this…
