Makeovers

What Goes Around…

I spend a lot of time refinishing old furniture.  It’s worth mentioning, however, that home accessories can also be refinished to give them new life.  A great example is this old lazy susan that has clearly seen better days.  (If you aren’t familiar with lazy susans, they are THE BEST for providing easy-access storage and serving, and are relatively easy to find at thrift stores).

This lazy susan belongs to a client of mine.  She wanted to use it on her dining room table in a space that has a nautical theme.  I stripped the old stain off and sanded it smooth, revealing the beautiful grain.  To create a driftwood-like appearance, I used Varathane stain in Sunbleached.  It goes on somewhat like paint, and you need to rub off all of the excess to reveal the wood grain.  The finish ends up a gorgeous faded gray.  Once the background was finished, it was time to have some fun.  The client wanted a simple, guest-friendly message and settled on the word “enjoy” in a typewriter font.  I painted the words around the edge in a charcoal gray–leaving the middle open to ensure its function.

What a sweet and simple message.  Enjoy.

Hold my wine, I’ve got this…
