When we purchased our home 3 years ago, we fell in love with it. It was the layout, size, and space we were looking for. It was colonial in style, but the problem was, my husband and I are not colonial in taste. Therefore we set out to adapt some of the features of the house to our style. The fireplace was one area of focus for us. Now, don’t get me wrong…the original fireplace was very pretty. It just wasn’t the rustic, old-world look that we prefer.
I was able to source a large piece of live-edge wood to serve as the mantle and used some salvage 4×4 posts as supports. With the addition of some tile we purchased at an amazing price, we now have the rustic, cozy fireplace I have always dreamed of.
