Coffee and End Tables Get a Second Life

My client contacted me about refinishing some tables that they had had for a number of years.  These tables were well worn and in need of refinishing.  They were, however, some of the coolest designed tables I have ever worked on.  The doors on the front open and can be used as display space or storage.

The client asked that I refinish the top in a warm, medium-tone stain and paint the legs and body in a distressed black.

Once I started the refinishing process I discovered that these tables are SOLID wood.  As a result, I was able to sand all of the scratches out without worrying about sanding through a veneer.  Once the tops were sanded and stained, the gorgeous grain just popped!Amy's Upcycles, Pottstown PA, Upcycle, coffee table, end table, painted furniture

I painted the body in a flat black and gently distressed the edges.  At the client’s prompting, I added more distressing on the flat surfaces to give a casual, rustic look (better to start by lightly distressing because you can always add more).  I sealed the entire piece in satin poly to protect it and reinstalled the original hardware.

Check out that cute puppy reflection in the glass!!  I’m so happy that these tables are going to keep serving this family for years to come.
