I was reviewing some pieces that I refinished a few years back, and this sideboard always remains one of my favorites. My client is an author and photographer with an eye for art and design. Her choice of color for this sideboard was both bold and perfect!
The sideboard was a piece that had been in her basement and was now taking a new starring role in the living room. It was in great shape and a quality piece of furniture. The client’s artistic eye had something special in mind. She drew inspiration from this beautiful original piece by Lele Galer and chose Dark Teal by Benjamin Moore.
Painting a large piece of furniture teal is a bold move, but wow did it pay off! Here is the piece once it was painted.
The color is gorgeous but definitely bright. We decided to tone down the color and give it age and character by dry brushing black over the teal. Then, to blend with gold tones in the room, I used metallic gold paint to carefully dry brush some shimmer. The effect is so subtle that it is really only noticeable when the light hits it, and it looks fantastic. In keeping with the gold theme, I utilized these cool drawer pulls from my stash and painted them gold. I then aged them with black paint that I rubbed on and immediately rubbed off.
The pulls now have an antique feel and blend perfectly with the finished sideboard.
Do you have the courage to go bold with a piece of furniture to bring “pop” to a room? As you can see, it can have amazing results!
