I was talking on the phone to a potential client the other day about a desk he has that is a sentimental family piece, but is simply not functional. The place where your knees are supposed to go is so small that only a child could fit. I have not seen the desk or even a picture, but my mind is already rolling. It got me to thinking about all of the different ways to repurpose a desk. I realize that not everyone looks at things the way I do or thinks the way I do (we can all breathe a collective sigh of relief), so I thought I’d bring you along on a crazy journey through my brain –and the brains of some other very talented creators.
Let’s start with a few of the ways I have repurposed a desk. Below are some examples:
This old secretary desk became a perfect coffee bar with plenty of storage for supplies.
This desk found new life as a vanity.
This office desk now serves as a buffet.
And this old desk is now a rolling kitchen island.
This desk was converted by Mixed Up Mrs. into matching nightstands.
This gorgeous old secretary is now a fully functioning bar, thanks to the handiwork of Vintage Grace.
Kinda makes you want to go find a desk at a thrift store and get creating, doesn’t it? Ok, maybe it’s just me. But I want you to see the endless possibilities of repurposing furniture. Now, what are we going to do about that piece in your basement?
