A Desk that Would Make Mom Proud

My client reached out to me to update a beautiful desk that was her mom’s.  This desk is a perfect example of taking an important piece of furniture and making it fit your lifestyle.  The desk was in great shape except for a few natural scratches and dings.

She originally asked me to paint the entire desk navy blue.  After tossing around some ideas, I suggested we paint to body navy blue, but leave the desktop and drawer faces as-is.  The desktop has a beautiful inlay and the drawer faces are in good condition.  She agreed and said that she would replace the hardware herself.

I was thrilled when she picked Benjamin Moore’s Hale Navy.  It is truly the perfect navy blue for furniture—not too bright and it coordinates with just about every stain color beautifully.  I painted the body and left those gorgeous brass feet on the legs as they were.  The top needed a few touch-ups to cover some nicks, and then I applied a top coat to give it a uniform shine and add a bit of protection.

I love love love the way this desk turned out.  It looks so fresh and crisp but maintained the beauty and integrity of the original piece.  I bet her mom is proud.
