The petite stature of this dresser is what drew me in immediately. At 28.5 x 25.5 x 16, my first thought was how perfect it would be for an entryway! Plenty of storage for mail, leashes, bags, and keys. The problem was in the aesthetics. It was drab, damaged, and dated.
I decided that coastal-inspired finishes would give this piece a fresh look. Once the top and drawer faces were stripped and sanded, I applied sunbleached stain to achieve a driftwood finish. I balanced the stain with a gorgeous ocean blue paint that I dry-brushed to give a slightly worn appearance.
Given the small size of the dresser, I wanted to use drawer pulls that were size-appropriate. I toyed with several styles before settling on simple knotted-rope pulls that I created myself. They aren’t overpowering and they fit the coastal theme perfectly.
Finally, I applied a flat-finish topcoat to keep the casual feel, while protecting the finish. This piece will keep the coastal vibe going year-round! Available for purchase at The Shop at Amy’s Upcycles.
