Sunny Little Dresser Makeover

What is better than a gorgeous dresser makeover?  A dresser makeover in a sunny yellow tone!  My client salvaged this dresser and will be using it in her foyer.

She wanted a pop of color to break up an otherwise neutral palette.  I love the color she selected–it is a gorgeous, buttery yellow.

This dresser has the gift of lots of cracks, chips, and other beauty marks that give it fantastic character in addition to original features such as decorative wooden details and metal casters.  It has a story to tell. The trick to these pieces, however, is to make sure that the paint doesn’t look like a flat blanket of color over the dresser.

After making some minor repairs to the dresser (I replaced the drawer slides to allow the drawers to open and close more smoothly and filled in some holes), it was ready for its base color.  This color is one that you can’t help but be happy around!  It did, however, look a little flat and one-note.

My client didn’t want it to be distressed but was very open to the idea of dry brushing a mustard-gold tone over top of the yellow to highlight the character and charm.  The wooden detail on the drawers just pops now!  The original buttery color shows through, but now has the depth and dimension that a vintage dresser needs.

She selected some gorgeous fluted white porcelain knobs to complete the makeover.  I sealed the dresser for durability and it is ready for its new home.
