The Wedding

This week I had a unique honor to play a small part in someone’s wedding. The mother of the bride was looking for a table that would hold a unity candle for the ceremony, and then be incorporated into the new couple’s home. What a lovely idea that the couple will be able to cherish this piece of their wedding for years to come!

I sent the bride’s mother a photo of a sofa table that I had recently purchased at auction, letting her know that she could select whatever finishes she and the couple preferred. The wedding is outdoors and the ceremony is taking place on a dock.

We confirmed the dimensions would work for the venue, selected the colors and finishes, and the transformation began! A special design was created as a theme for the couple’s wedding, including their names, wedding date and a nod to their profession. I was asked to put the design on the drawer knob. (I did so, but did not include a photo to keep the privacy of the couple.)

I started with giving the entire piece a good sanding and cleaning. Once I had a clean slate, the fun began. A dark coffee stain was selected for the top and drawer face, while the legs and body were painted a creamy white. I slightly distressed the legs and body to give it some additional character. The table was delivered and the mother of the bride is thrilled!

One of the joys I feel in doing this work is knowing that each piece I create is going to become a part of someone’s home and their story. This piece, in particular, was extra special as it will play a part in their wedding and be a part of their memories for the future. Congratulations to the happy couple. I wish you a lifetime of joy!

I can’t imagine a better job than the one I have!
