Saving the Sentimental

I had the real honor recently of being asked to refinish a sentimental hutch that came from the client’s childhood home.  It is amazing to be able to take a piece of someone’s history and bring it to life in a real, modern-day and useful way.  The original hutch was taller than the client wanted, and the color was not her taste.  The back and top were badly damaged and unfortunately, all of the hardware had been painted.

The client wanted the hutch to be cut down and put on casters, so that is where I started.  I ordered gorgeous, copper casters online, and stripped the paint from the hardware to reveal its original finish.  The stripped hardware turned out to be perfect just as it was!

Next, I created a new top and back for the hutch and went with a medium stain to accent the clients color selection of deep blue. The finished hutch complements her coastal decor and has allowed her to use a sentimental piece from her childhood in her everyday life.

Hold my wine, I’ve got this…
