Poster bed makeover

If I can help someone envision their furniture in a different way, they can fall in love with it all over again.

Instead of looking at a bed or dresser and deciding that you want to purchase something new, I want to challenge people to see furniture through the lens of what it could be with a little alteration.

I recently had a client contact me about giving her very formal cherry-finish poster bed a new look.

We discussed paint color options, and decided black would enhance the original wood tones the best since she wanted the piece to be distressed.   Distressing would also bring out the detail in the wood.Poster bed, painted furnitureThe bed has some interesting hardware, and when we originally discussed the refinishing plans, we thought that painting the hardware silver or pewter would give it the fresh look we were after.  However, after the bed was painted and distressed, we realized that the tone of the wood showing through was much too warm to blend with cool silver tones. It’s amazing how paint alone can transform the look of furniture. This bed is a beautiful example of how a very formal poster bed can be transformed into a casual, almost french-country looking bed.  All with a little black paint.
