Cartoons Reimagined

A lot of what I do involves repurposing pieces in their new life.  When I saw this desk, I immediately knew I wanted to create a coffee or wine bar.  Drink bars are becoming more and more popular, and I love finding compact pieces that will fit the bill.

I purchased this old secretary desk (yes, it did have a fold-down front that was broken off) because I liked the size and storage.  Needless to say, it had belonged to a creative person previously that had put a lot of time into painting the cartoon images on the side.  However, for my purposes, I opted for a more subtle look.

Neutral colors allow for easy integration into existing living spaces.   I used Mineral Paint by Waverly for the body, a custom blend stain from Sherwin Williams for the drawer fronts and “backsplash” and rounded out the neutrals with black accents.  I added new hardware that I painted oil rubbed bronze with a bit of copper.

This old secretary desk now has a new life as a coffee or wine bar, complete with plenty of storage and space for mixing.

Hold my wine, I’ve got this…
